Vibe Coding Explained

Vibe Coding Explained

By: Saaketh Madhuvarsu

Vibe coding. You may have heard of this term lately but don’t know what it really is. It has been getting popular very fast. It was released in February of 2025, but what makes it special and what is it in the first place?

What is Vibe Coding and how is it used?

To put it simply, vibe coding is using an AI to create lots of code by using a prompt, but let’s dig in some more. To use vibe coding you have to give it a prompt; ex: make me an app that teaches children about space. Vibe coding is just a term, not a specific AI. The concept of vibe coding can be used in any AI like LeetCode, Replit, ChatGPT etc. I used Replit and asked it for an app that teaches children about space, and it gave me the whole code for the app including quizzes, 3D Models, and an information page. The cool part about this is that even for debugging the code, if you screenshot your error and send it to the AI, it will fix your code as well.

Who invented Vibe Coding?

Andrej Karapathy is the man who coined the term, “Vibe coding”. Andrej is a computer scientist, AI researcher, and was the AI leader at Tesla. He also worked at OpenAI, so he has a good perspective on AI.

How does this affect us?

Vibe coding may replace coders in the future. The way a simple prompt can turn into an entire app shows us how much of an impact this is already making. Currently people may choose to have a professional coder program their apps, instead of an AI that’s still developing. Putting aside the factor of trust, I see this new concept of AI at the top of coding in the future. Excited to see what’s coming up in the world of AI and coding.
